Slot Machine Near Misses are Perfectly Tuned to Stoke the Addiction
Discover Magazine

In this article, it is explained that when someone is gambling, if they almost win that more blood is sent to the reward areas of their brain and it causes them to want to play more. The article also says that many slot machine makers program their machines to tease the gamblers by making them almost win. This way it keeps the gamblers spending money.

The article was well written and very informative, especially to people who gamble. I was surprised that there is a scientific reason why people enjoy gambling. I would like to know if there are any other reasons people can get addicted to gambling.

  1. This posting was very interesting because i never knew why people became so addicted to gambling! I would also like to know how the people who design the machine choose when to let somebody win. You forgot to state the author but everything else was great! (:

  2. Whoaaa that's really cool how the machine is programmed to make you almost win. You should have given more detail and you forgot the author and title of you article. Other than that it was really good and interesting to read.
